Other Health Services

Like all other GP surgeries, we are not an unlimited service. At a time of unprecedented pressure and workload, and with a shrinking workforce, we must follow recognised guidance on maintaining safe working practices so that we do not put the safety of our patients or the welfare of our staff at risk.

If we have reached safe capacity for the day and we are full, there are other options for getting the help that you need. The information provided below forms part of the processes by which the practice fulfils its contractual obligations to ensure that an appropriate response is sent to any patient that makes contact with us.

If you have any of the following symptoms, call 999 now:

  • Signs of a heart attack (chest pain, pressure, heaviness, tightness or squeezing across the chest)
  • Signs of a stroke (face dropping on one side, can’t hold both arms up, difficulty speaking)
  • Sudden confusion (delirium, cannot be sure of own name or age)
  • Suicide attempt (by taking something or self-harming)
  • Severe difficulty breathing (not being able to get words out, choking or gasping)
  • Heavy bleeding (spraying, pouring or enough to make a puddle)
  • Severe injuries (after a serious accident)
  • Seizure/fit (shaking or jerking because of a fit, or unconscious (can’t be woken up))
  • Sudden, rapid swelling of the lips, mouth, throat or tongue
  • Labour or childbirth (waters breaking, more frequent intense cramps (contractions), baby coming, or just born)

Speak to a pharmacist

Pharmacists are trained healthcare professionals. Pharmacists train for five years before they’re fully qualified. This includes a four-year master’s degree in Pharmacy, followed by a foundation year in training. They can easily help ith minor illnesses such as coughs and colds, itchy eyes and earache. If symptoms indicate something that may be more serious, they can signpost you to other NHS services, such as a GP or A&E to the help you need. With no appointment needed, local pharmacy teams offer a fast and convenient service and if needed can speak to you in the privacy of a consultation room. Find your nearest pharmacy here.

NHS 111 Online

You can use NHS 111 online to check symptoms in order to be triaged to an appropriate service. This could be being asked to call 999, go to a MIU or book a call back from a nurse, or another option. This is a helpful tool for figuring out who to contact if you are unsure of the severity of your symptoms.
